Children on Golf Carts

Posted 30 Jul 2008 in News

State law has a provision in it that allows golf carts to be driven on public roadways if the cart is operated in a country club community. The law does not stipulate that the operator has to possess a driver's license, but does state that the cart can only be operated on the roadway to and from the club.

Therefore, children can legally operate golf carts in Walden. The catcher is that they must operate them under the same guidelines as autos, except for the license. They must follow all traffic laws and operate the carts safely. If the constable sees a cart with more passengers in it than seats, children hanging out of the cart, or carts being operated in an unsafe manner, they have been requested to ticket the operator and escort them and the cart home and inform the parents of the events.
